I have quite a number of amalgum fillings and as I suffer severe allergies, I asked the dentist to remove them. Her reply was that as I’d had them so long that my teeth would be weakened and that it would do more damage removing them because of the small particles. She then wanted to fill another tooth with amalgum and I told her I didn’t want it. She said it was my decision but the filling wouldn’t be as strong. I then rang another dentist and they were not keen to remove them and I couldn’t get an appoitment until next year. As I am on a disability, is it possible to have them removed. well, root canals on kids is different, they are called apioectomy. it is ok, because it does not affect the permanent tooth. the stainess, that contains nickel and nickel is a known cancer causing substance, listed with the FDA. so, i would see a biologic dentist for it and ask for non-mental. gold is an ok metal to have in the mouth and certain other metals, but not nickel.

Our pediatric dentist is recommending a root canal for our six-year-old son OR he reluctantly would also extract the broken tooth (next to last molar from the back; he does not have his six year old molars yet.)and put in a stainless steel space-maintainer. We will not do the root canal so… Two questions: Is the stainless steel safe until permanent tooth comes in about four years? OR is there an option I haven’t found yet? Thank you and God bless.

i think i’ll have mine removed as well.. i’m not sure, but i think it may have caused an immune disease called Graves Disease.. this makes my immune system attack my thyroid. Therefore allowing me to develop hyperthyroidism

I Have been having pain in a root canal that was done maybe less then 2 years ago. The one Doctor I saw recently over the summer, was an oral surgeon who explained to me about the bodies rejection of a dead tooth in your mouth. He perscribed chlorhexidine gluconate 0.12%. But I still have pain. After reading your article, I’ve decided to go for an extraction. I’ll work with my dentist to do a permanent bridge so not to disturb my mouth and the shifting of teeth. The amalgams are toxic, especially in early stages. However, it is not well known that most/all of other dental materials have toxicity.
Some of the composites lead to allergies, are proven endocrine disruptors, can cause cancer, many other problems. They also do not last as long as amalgams and can lead to people losing some or their entire tooth. So, be very careful when replacing amalgams, especially the old ones and when you have not major health issues.

What are the alternatives though? I just had one done on my front top tooth. I don’t want metal in my body, nor dentures.
I am so upset with myself for listening to my dentist. My tooth never gave me problems and was almost dead due to a softball 25 yrs. ago. seems he must’ve wanted to make some money otherwise, why recommend it?
